Despite the amazing convergence of capabilities in modern smartphones and tablets we still are occasionally approached by folks who want to use the combination of a Flip camera and their tablet. Their question: “How do I get videos from my Flip camera into Coach’s Eye on my iPhone or iPad.” Luckily, Coach’s Eye is super flexible and allows iOS compatible MP4 videos (MPEG-4 h.264) to be imported into the app.

Here’s the cookbook that walks you step-by-step through the process of importing Flip camera videos.

Resources needed:

Coach’s Eye for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

Flip Cam.

A computer with a USB port.

Dropbox installed on both your mobile device and on your desktop computer.


Step 1 – Plug the Flip camera into your computer.

Step 2 – Copy the Flip camera videos to a Dropbox folder on your personal computer.

Step 3 – Grab your mobile device and launch the Dropbox app.

Step 4 – Tap the Dropbox library button in the lower left corner.

Step 5 – Browse your Dropbox library and locate the Flip camera video. Tap the video.

Step 6  – Tap the Favorite button (star). The star should be filled after you tap (as shown).

Step 7 – Wait for the Save button in the lower right corner to light up. This can take some time so be patient. Once lit tap it.

Step 8 – An action sheet will pop with options. Tap Save to Photo Library. This will save the in your devices Photos app (Camera Roll) where it can be accessed by Coach’s Eye.

Step 9 – Press the Home button once to exit the Dropbox app. 

Step 10 – Launch the Coach’s Eye app.

Step 11 – Tap the import button.

Step 12 – Tap Camera Roll.

Step 13 – Tap the Choose button.

Step 14 – Locate the Flip cam video in your Camera Roll and tap it.

Step 15 – You can now take advantage of the state-of-the-art mobile video analysis tools in Coach’s Eye.
